Dance like everybody's watching

Here I am, for the first time, my first blog, and there is a battle going on in my mind. Should I write more? Or less? How much longer do I need to hover over the post button to feel comfort?  The thought of exposing the combination of words that flow from my head, heart, and soul is uncomfortably scary, yet the idea of not revealing them is scary too.

It makes me think of dancing and the words, “Dance like no one is watching.” I understand that quote because when nobody is watching, my movements tend to be more significant, more dramatic. Dancing with the broom as I sweep the kitchen floor, with moves so smooth I believe I mimic Fred Astaire,  and if I don’t, the only ones who know are the appliances or my daughter, hiding behind the wall, in a veiled attempt to record me. No eyes of judgment there, but here's the question I am learning to ask, why restrict the view?

See, I can dance like nobody is watching, and I can also hold back my words to reserve them for private viewing only, but why? Why not share words that may inspire? Why not share stories of how blessings have flowed or about a path that led me to the greatest love I have ever known? For so many years, I questioned the authenticity of my faith and all the reasons I shouldn’t write about it:

I haven’t prayed enough.

I don’t always see things the same way as others.

I don’t know the formal words to say.

Serve as much as some, and the list went on.

Then, with a whole lot of grace, I realized I was missing the entire point of my faith.

It isn’t about me. It’s about what God did for me, no matter how I have strayed or attempted to walk away. His love stayed. So if that is what I say, I believe, why not live like it?  Why not lean into God's arms, into the fullness of who He has created me to be? Why not hit publish on my website and trust the words will come out, alright? Why not dance?  Dance awkward, DANCE BIG, dance past the restraints of my mind, dance like everyone's watching because He set me free, and that’s something to see!
